Productivity Commission Inquiry 2010 - Disability Care and Support

Introduction

NCID acknowledges funding provided by Ministers Macklin and Shorten, through the Department of Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, which has greatly enhanced the capacity of NCID to consult with people with intellectual disability and family members and our ablility to respond to the Inquiry.

NCID is appoaching the Productivity Commission Inquiry as a 'rolling' project. As well as making submissions within the timelines we will be:

  • presenting relevant information from our work over the past 24 months
  • presenting additional information as it is developed, by us, in partnership with members and others
  • highlighting key submissions made by others
Work is currently being undertaken on:
  • Introduction, emphasising the need for the Productivity Commission and political leaders to see as their first priority the funding of all the support needs for all people with intellectual disability. The questions of governance, service system are secondary and of no relevance if the funding is not there!
  • History of the response to people with intellectual disability (for a detailed history click here)
  • Definition of intellectual disability
  • Eligibility criteria for a long term support scheme, specifically self assessment
  • Assesment for funding support under a long term support scheme, specifically the Support Intensity Scale
  • Employment support under a long term support scheme

If you would like to comment on any of these (or other issues) please email Mark Pattison.
